The annual Auckland Town Hall Organ Concert Series is back for 2023, with two of three concerts still to come later in the year.
The annual Sunday concerts have become a local favourite since they began in 2010, drawing a crowd of up to 1000 music lovers from all over Tāmaki Makaurau.
Kerry Stevens, the Auckland Town Hall Organ Trust Chairman, says the annual free concerts are an essential part of the city's cultural life. "We are thrilled to announce our 2023 Auckland Town Hall Organ concert series with our longstanding partner Auckland Live.".
Stevens says the free concerts are "created for the people of Tāmaki Makaurau and visitors to our city to showcase New Zealand's leading concert instrument, the mighty Auckland Town Hall Organ."
Kemp and Eguchi have told people attending their concert on 3 September at the Auckland Town Hall to expect" something completely different". The pair are excited to be giving the New Zealand premiere of a piece by Mons Leidvin Takle called The Pallets Of Love. Kemp says Aucklanders will be "thrilled to hear this music live for the very first time in New Zealand".
One of this year's concerts is an organ and violin concert on 3 September. This concert will feature Yuka Eguchi, violinist, and assistant concertmaster with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, performing with one of New Zealand’s leading concert performers, Kemp English.
"We are really excited about this concert at the Auckland Town Hall" Kemp says "it's probably one of the first for them, in that we have a combination of violin and organ."
Kemp is no stranger to the Town Hall, having performed there three times in the past. He says the audiences there are "absolutely magnificent. Sometimes we have a full crowd there of around 2000 people".
Kemp says they are "lucky that Auckland Council supports these concerts."
People attending this concert can expect "something completely different." Yuka added. "we will actually be giving the New Zealand premiere of a piece by Mons Leidvin Takle called The Pallets Of Love, which Takle very kindly composed specifically for us to play."
"Auckland audiences will be thrilled to hear this music live for the very first time in New Zealand."
As mentioned earlier, all concerts are free but will require an entry ticket, which can be booked through Moshtix.
